Bird Viewing - Horseshoe Lagoon Conservation Park
One of the best spots in the Burdekin for bird watching is at Horseshoe Lagoon Conservation Park. This permanent freshwater lagoon, nestled near major tourist routes and vibrant agricultural zones, offers a unique opportunity for bird enthusiasts. With its distinctive freshwater vegetation and rich birdlife, the lagoon promises an unforgettable experience.
Just a 30-minute drive north of Ayr, you may see Black-necked storks (Jabiru), Australian Darters, Yellow-Billed Spoonbills, White-necked Herons and Comb-crested Jacanas, just to name a few. The Burdekin Shire Council has provided a bird hide on the edge of the lagoon, which allows bird watchers a sheltered environment from which to view the various bird species living at this habit.
