Winters in Queensland
Some say there is no such thing as a winter in North Queensland, with average low of 12 and highs of 26 degrees celcius we think they might be right. Between June and August is the perfect time to visit to enjoy the gorgeous weather.
If visiting between July and September you might also get to see the annual humpback whale migration!
Barra Season
Whether you are a keen fisherman or not, you have to visit during barra season and feel the exhilierating rush when you hook one of the big guys. The barra season opens at midday on 1 February each year and closes at midday on 1 November.

If you want an authentic Burdekin experience, you will want to pack your bags and be here at the end of May. The Sweet Days Hot Nights Festival kicks off the cane crushing season with the Burdekin Cultural Fair featuring First Fire and the Australian Hand Cane Cutting Championships.
