Cane Fire Viewing

The Burdekin is known for spectacular sugarcane fires which take place between June and December. The Burdekin is one of the last regions in Australia to still predominately burn sugarcane before harvest. There is nothing quite like witnessing the raw power of a sugarcane paddock going up in flames. For those wishing to get up close and personal and learn about why our farmers burn before harvesting, Burdekin Farm Stay is your go-to.

Alternatively, the first cane fire of the season event is part of the Sweet Days Hot Nights Festival at the Home Hill Showgrounds held at the end of May biennially.
